African remanded to police custody till Apr 23

Bangaon, Apr 20 (UNI) A local court here today remanded an African youth Japhet alias Mr Innocent, who was apprehended by Border Security Force(BSF) from Angrail under Gaighata police station in North 24 Parganas, to police custody till April 23.

The 26-year-old Togo national was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in the Subdivisional Magistrate court here after prosecuting him at Bangaon police station.

Incidentally, BSF detained him for interrogation since April 17 and handed over to the police for prosecution under foreigner's Act yesterday, the police said.

Japhet was apprehended for allegedly intruding Indian territory from Bangladesh crossing river Ichhamati. Earlier, he said to have landed in Mumbai in February last as a tourist. He had reportedly lost his travel documents and money in Mumbai, police said.
