1035 file nominations for phase VII poll in UP
Lucknow, Apr 20 (UNI) Altogether 1,035 candidates filed nomination papers for phase-VII of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, for which polling will be held for 59 seats on May 8.
On the last day of filing of nominations today, 502 candidates submitted their papers.
Scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done tomorrow and candidates can withdraw nominations till April 23.
In the repolling held today in one booth of Nagina assembly seat in Bijnor district, which went to poll on Wednesday last, an estimated 72 per cent of the voters used the franchise.
Repolling was ordered at booth no. 118 of Nagina seat following malfunctioning of the EVM.
In the sixth phase, where polling is slated for May 3, there are 790 candidates in the fray for 52 assembly seats.
In the fifth phase, a total of 863 candidates are in the fray for 58 seats where polling will be held on April 28 while for the fourth phase elections on April 23, there are 929 candidates in the contest.
In the third phase of polling held today in 57 seats, 861 candidates are in the fray where around 50 per cent polling took place.
In the second phase of polling held on April 13, altogether 881 candidates were in the fray for 58 seats and the polling was over 46 per cent. In the first phase of polling on April 7, the fate of as many as 839 candidates was sealed, with over 46 per cent of voters exercising their right to franchise in 62 seats spread over 13 districts.
