Shimla, Apr 19 (UNI) With the summer season round the corner, Shimla town is facing water scarcity following which Shimla Municipal Corporation has decided to rationalise water supply in the town.

The state capital, which has a population of 250,000, needs eight million gallons of water daily as against only six million being distributed as of now, a senior Shimla Municipal Corporation official, requesting anonymity, said here.

He said, starting from today, various localities of the town would be supplied water on alternate days with the crises likely to deepen in the coming days as the dry spell grows and tourists make a beeline to the state.

Water tankers have already started making rounds of several localities of the town to supply drinking water to the people.

However, the prevailing water scarcity was likely to get over on October two when the town would start getting water from the Giri River, he added.
