Chandigarh, Apr 19 (UNI) In order to ease out power supply position during the Summer, the Chandigarh Administration will purchase power from other states.

The Administration will purchase 10 MW evening peak power at Rs 4.69 per unit and 15 MW off peak power at the rate of Rs 4.29 per unit for the months of May, June and July. However, the off peak power will be 30 MW instead of 15 MW for the month of July.

Power to the tune of 100 MW has been arranged from Adani Enterprises Ltd, Gurgaon, at the rate of Rs 6.93 per unit for the period from July 15 to 31 and at the rate of Rs 6.86 per unit from August 1 to September 30.

The power has been arranged at much higher rates than the normal purchase price so as to avoid overdrawing of power from the grid and to maintain grid discipline, official sources said.

With the onset of peak summers, the electricity consumption in the city has risen sharply. The peak demand, which reached 272 MW last year, is anticipated to touch 320 MW this summer.

Chandigarh having no source of power generation is entirely dependent upon the allocation of 253 MW from Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and various central generating stations. However, actual availability in the city is lesser than the entitled power.

Therefore, to bridge the gap between the demand and availability, various tie- ups have been made by the Administration with Power Trading Corporation and Adani Enterprises Ltd.
