Two persons arrested for smuggling ivory

Sirsi, Karnataka, Apr 19 (UNI) Karwar Police have arrested two persons in connection with smuggling ivory articles, worth Rs 70 lakh, at Joida in Uttara Kannada district.

Police said Ramesh Gavuda and Mahadev Patil of Ramanagar in Joida taluk were illegally hiding two items carved out of ivory, each weighing 14 kg.

Police, under the guise of merchants, finalised the deal for Rs six lakhs. When the accused arrived at the agreed spot with the material, police arrested them recently.
