'Service providers must re-activate connections'

New Delhi, Apr 19: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today directed all the mobile service operators to restore connections within 24 hours of those costumers whose connection were deactivated during verification process.

The authority has advised these service providers to exercise maximum caution and restrained to avoid inconvenience to the subscribers.

The authority has further directed them to ensure that all the re-activated subscribers get their privileges and facilities like validity period, balance amount etc, due to them , as per their earlier agreements.

The Department of Telecommunication (DoT) had earlier issued notices to carry out 100 per cent verification of identity proof of existing subscribers by March 31, 2007.

TRAI has said it has received a number of complaints from subscribers regarding deactivation of their connection even after submission of all the required documents.

It said in a statement, that it has noticed during verification process a substantial number of connections have been deactivated.
