Preserve glorious Indian Family System: HRD Minister

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Apr 19 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari today exhorted girl students to preserve the glorious Indian Family System, be good house-wives and successful professionals, and not ape the Western women.

Interfacing with hundreds of young engineering girl students after inaugurating the Rs four crore girls hostel complex of the RVR and JC college of engineering in SVN colony here, she explained the differences between the concept of empowerment of women in India and the West.

In the West, late marriages and relectance of women to beget children were conceived as part of empowerment of women meternity was treated as a torture by women in the West while Indian women take pride in it, she observed.

A married woman can make a mark in a profession of her choice, ''motherhood is not incompatible with professional success'', she said.

The minister explained the need to educate women especially rural women about the laws enacted to protect her particularly the constitutional guarantee of equality before law and equal protection of law.
