Policemen remanded to police custody for robbery

Pune, Apr 19 (UNI) Three policemen and their accomplice were today remanded to police custody by a local court till April 23 for robbing a jeweller's employee of ornaments worth Rs 7.52 lakh here on Solapur-Pune Highway on Tuesday.

The incidence shocked all, as the law enforcers themselves were involved in the violation of law where three policemen attached to the CBI were arrested while another accused is still absconding.

The Court remanded them to police custody as the prosecution wanted to investigate whether they were involved in crime elsewhere.

''As their mobile has still not been traced, we need to interrogate them further'', the prosecution said.

The Loni-Kalbhor police, in a swift action, arrested the four while another is absconding after a Solapur based jeweller's employee Yuvraj Singh Balrajsingh Bayas (65) was dragged while travelling in a bus to an isolated spot in a police jeep and robbed off all the ornaments.

The police, after accusing him of stealing, fled the scene. A stunned Bayas took the help of a motorcyclist and approached the police in Hadapsar area who directed him to another chowky as the spot of the crime did not come under their jurisdiction.

The looters have been identified as Vijay Devdan Kale of the SRPF Group II, Constables Navnath Prabhakar Pingale of Crime Branch Pune, Pratap Hanumanth Gaikwad of the Motor Transport Section and a fourth accomplice Umesh Ramchand Parmar. The police has recovered the jewellery from them.

Meanwhile, State Home Minsiter R R Patil has sent a congratulatory message to the Loni-Kalbhor Police for cracking the case in just five hours.
