Nine Kargil forest officials charge-sheeted

Srinagar, Apr 19 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today filed a charge-sheet against nine forest officials of the Kargil division.

A vigilance spokesman said the charge-sheet was filed before the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir, here.

The officials are Ghulam Abbass, then Range Officer Drass and now retired, Ghulam Abbass, then Forester Block Drass, Tsering Wangdus, then Range Officer Zanaskar (now retired), Rigzin Tanter, then Forester Zanaskar, Kachoo Ali Raza Khan, then Range Officer Kargil (now retired), Syed Nizamudin, then Forester Sankoo Kargil, Bashir Ahmad, then Forester Shargole, Ghulam Hassan, then Forester Shaker-Chiktan Kargil (now retired) and Mohammad Habib, then Range Officer, Headquarters Kargil.

The accused had misappropriated an amount of Rs 6,90,816 on account of executing works, including plantation and dry walling of the areas, falling within the Kargil Forest Division under the Employment Assurance Scheme during 1999-2000, the spokesman said.

At many places the works were not executed at all while at others these were not as per specification for which the money was drawn from the government treasury, he added.
