India provides Rs 4.4 cr to schools in Nepal

Kathmandu, Apr 19 (UNI) The Indian government has provided a grant of Rs 4.42 crores for the construction of two school buildings in Mahottari district of Nepal.

According to the Indian embassy, the Indian ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee laid the foundation stone for the Shree Ram Secondary School at Matihani which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.54 crores.

The project will be implemented by District Development Committee (DDC), Mahottari, with an oversight committee consisting of representatives from DDC, school management committee and the District Education Office who will monitor the project and ensure quality construction and effective utilization of the grant.

The school, established in 1966, has about 1200 students.

The Indian ambassador also inaugurated the newly constructed school building of Shree Adarsha Madhyamik Vidyalaya at Ratauli which was constructed at a cost of around Rs 1.9 crore.

The school, which was established in 1953, is one of the oldest in the district.

It was upgraded to the secondary level in 1971 and to the higher secondary level in 1990. More than 550 students are studying there at present.

The Indian government has also gifted an ambulance to the Rural Community Development Services Council in Jaleshwar.

Under the ongoing bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, more than 190 projects are currently being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts with an outlay of over Rs 2000 crores, the embassy stated.
