Dry weather affects Asom's tea production in March
Kolkata, Apr 19 (UNI) Unseasonable and dry weather in Tingri district of Upper Asom has led to very poor tea production last month, official sources said.
The outturn was also considerably below last year due to prevalence of red spider mite.
The outturn in Mangaldai and Tezpur in Lower Asom was normal and the immediate prospects were fair.
The weather was dry at Mangaldai, while it was favourable with good rainfall at Tezpur. Red spider mite was prevalent in both places, while Helopeltis was prevalent only at Tezpur.
In North Cachar, Chutla Bheel and Hailakandi, the outturn was about normal and the weather was favourable but with low rainfall.
Insects like Red spider mite and Thrips were prevalent.
In Kalchini, the weather was dry and the outturn was considerably much below than last year.
No report was available from Doom Dooma, Panitola, Dibrugarh, Moran, North Lakhimpur, Naharkatia, Margherita, Central Asom, Bishnauth and Jainti.
