DDU residents call off indefinite strike; Services resume

New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) The indefinite strike by Deen Dayal Upadhayay (DDU) Hospital doctors and para-medical staff was called off tonight after the Delhi Government gave in to their demands, including improving security in the hospital.

''We have called off the strike which commenced this morning and are resuming duty with immediate effect,'' DDU RDA president Dr Pankaj Sabharwal told UNI after the general body meeting of the RDA, Nurses and other staff.

A delegation of agitating doctors met Delhi Health Secretary D S Negi this evening, who gave then a written assurance that all their demands pertaining to the security at the hospital will be fulfilled.

As soon as the strike ended, all medical services, including Emergency, which were completely paralysed through the day resumed to the relief of patients who were not being treated since this morning.

Resident doctors, interns, nurses and grade five employees in Hospital started the indefinite strike after the family of a dead child attacked a doctor and nurse, alleging negligence in the patient's treatment.
