CSL carries out major repairs on jack up rig

Kochi, Apr 19 (UNI) Jack up rig Trident II of M/s Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc, Houston, sailed off from Cochin Shipyard today, after major repairs.

The repair work, started in November, 2006, was completed on schedule, a spokesperson for the Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL) said.

The repair work undertaken entailed 350 tons of steel renewal which consisted of a new 3 tier accommodation block, removal/re-installation of shale shaker units, cropping/renewal of piping of 1500 mtrs and renewal of electrical cables of different sizes amounting to a total length of 7500 mtrs.

The contract also required fabrication, installation and commissioning of new raw water tower, blasting and painting covering an area of 20,000 sq. mtrs, renewal of drilling control panel, job on paging system, overhauling of AC motors, overhauling of DC motors, renewal of 150 sensor, installation of lights and light fittings with cabling, jobs on fire and gas detection systems and talk back system.

During the rig's stay in the yard, hydro blasting of all the legs, steel renewal on all legs upto full height, painting and anode renewal were also undertaken using special scaffolding, for the first time.

M/s transocean owns and operates more than 150 oil rigs worldwide, of which 12 are operating in Indian waters.
