Court fees: MP govt submits notification in HC
Jabalpur, Apr 19 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today submitted in the High Court a notification halving a 500 per cent hike in court fees and also partially reducing stamp duty.
While hearing a public interest plea by Nagrik Upbhokta Margdarshak Manch Chairman P G Najpande, Chief Justice Anang Kumar Patnaik and Justice Krishna Kumar Lahoti accepted the notification and fixed April 24 as the next date for hearing.
''As a result of the hike, stamp duty is Rs 100 per application and that proves exorbitant for litigants,'' the petitioner said while praying that the January 17 hike notification be struck down so that the poor and Backward Classes obtained justice easily.
Dr Najpande alleged that even the step to halve the hike was ''improper and unacceptable'' to the Manch.
