CM apologises for police misbehaviour with media

Guwahati, Apr 19 (UNI) Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today tendered apology for the misbehaviour of a senior state police officer with media team during the Prime Minister's visit on April 8.

The Senior Superintendent of Police of Guwahati had verbally abused media personnel when they had sought his help at the over-crowded entrance of the stadium where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was due to lay the foundation for a new bridge over the Brahmaputra.

The Guwahati-based media had later boycotted the function as well as all other government functions for the next three days, which was withdrawn only after the state government ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Mr Gogoi informed that an Additional Chief Secretary would conduct the inquiry.

Guidelines for officials during VVIP visits and other occasions would also be issued so that there is no recurrence of such incidents, he added.
