CCP flays factional violence in Nagaland

Kohima, Apr 19 (UNI) The Consultative Committee for Peace (CCP) has expressed concern over the inter-factional clashes among the Naga outfits and appealed to them to stop the mindless bloodshed.

According to a press communique issued by Nagaland Principal Secretary, Home and Member Secretary, CCP Mrs Banuo Z Jamir, the CCP, constituted by Nagaland government to facilitate the peace process between the Centre and the underground factions, met here yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and condemned the ongoing inter-factional clashes in the state resulting in casualties not only to underground cadres, but also to common people.

The CCP also took strong note of cases of extrotion, illegal tax collection, abduction and all other forms of violence and demanded that the outfits confine to their respective designated camps. It also sought extension of the ceasefire between the Centre and the NSCN(K), which is to expire on April 28.

The CCP further urged the Centre to come out with a mechanism so that the ceasefire ground rules could be implemented in its letter and spirit.

Appreciating the efforts being made by the civil society, churches and NGOs, along with the civil administration, the police and para-military forces towards maintaining law and order in the state, the CCP renewed its appeal to all sections of the people to do their best to ensure restoration ofpeace.
