BJP MP Katara remanded in 10-day police custody

New Delhi, Apr 19: A city court today remanded Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Dahod Babubhai Katara, who was arrested yesterday at Indira Gandhi International Airport here for trying to smuggle two people to Toronto, in 10-day police custody.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Megistrate Kamini Lau, after looking into the seriousness of the matter, ordered that Babubhai and Paramjeet Kaur be sent in police custody for ten and four days respectively.

The 46-year-old two-time MP was arrested on charges of human trafficking for trying to smuggle one Paramjeet Kaur, a native of Kapurthala in Punjab. and a teenage boy to Toronto on the diplomatic passports issued in the name of his wife Sharda Ben B Katara and son Rajesh.

Police registered a case against the trio under sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
