Ashwini Nachappa to start sports centre

Madikeri, Karnataka, Apr 19 (UNI) Celebrated former athlete Ashwini Nachappa proposes to run a sports centre, 'Ashwini Sports Foundation', at Gonikoppal in the hilly and picturesque border district of Kodagu.

The sports centre, to be built at a cost of Rs 15 crore, would become an exclusive one in the entire State, Ashwini told reporters at Gonikoppal, near here, disclosing the project details.

The centre included a synthetic athletic track, tennis court, swimming pool, indoor gym, badminton court, astroturf hockey ground and cricket ground, she added.

Ashwini said the sports centre would be located in 'Kals' school, the brain child of the sprinter and her husband Datha Karumbaiah.

The school would get a cricket stadium soon on the lines of the one in Mandya PES college.

Karnataka State Cricket Association Secretary Brijesh Patel would extend help in conducting cricket tournaments in Kodagu regularly, she said.

Ashwini was busy conducting a summer camp in the school campus.

The camp with 72 participants would continue till May 15 and Test cricketer Dodda Ganesh and Mukhesh Gandhi from Mysore were the coaches.
