AIIMS admin moves SC seeking removal of Venugopal
New Delhi, Apr 19 (UNI) The AIIMS administration has moved the Supreme Court seeking removal of Dr P Venugopal from the post of Director of the institute.
The petition has been filed against Delhi High Court judgement holding that Dr Venugopal could continue in the post but cannot head the institute's department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and ordering his removal from the post. The petitioner has challenged the judgement on the grounds that it is not for the court to decide as to which post Dr Venugopal will hold but the administration.
The administration had also contended that a Director can continue in the post only with the approval of the governing body of the institute, which is an autonomous body.
Earlier, when Dr Venugopal was sacked as the Director, the Delhi High Court had come to his rescue and the order was stayed. The impugned judgement came on the petition of Dr Venugopal, challenging his removal and a PIL contending that he cannot hold two posts simultaneously.
