Administration issues deadline to striking BEST employees
Mumbai, Apr 19 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport's (BEST) administration has issued a public notice in city newspapers today, stating ''Service of a Employee, who has taken participation in the ongoing 72-hour strike, will be terminated following the contempt of Bombay High Court's order.'' BEST undertaking general manager Uttam Khobragade said the High Court had passed its order yesterday restraining the employees to go on strike. However, the employees went on strike since last midnight.
Mr Khobragade said ''We have decided to give one chance, if any employee, who will resume his or her duty by tomorrow morning, their termination order will be taken back after taking an undertaking from them.'' The management was sending termination notice to all employees by post and the public notice would also be published in tomorrow's newpapers, he added.
However, BEST Workers Union general secretary Sharad Rao said ''No worker will get back to work till their demand of pay revision was accepted by the administration.'' Mr Rao said the strike was called for 72 hours, if their demands were not accepted by the management by that time, then they would decide the future course of action in the union's meeting, including whether to continue the strike or not.
