Vayalar Ravi rules out introduction of single-window recruitment

Dubai, Apr 18 (UNI) Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi has ruled out the introduction of single-window recruitment system for Indian labour to the Gulf countries.

He said here yesterday that his ministry has tightened rules, including harsher penalties and jail terms, against fraudulent recruiting agents.

India and UAE are jointly monitoring the activities of manpower agents and they are working together to improve the quality and living standards of the workforce, the minister added.

Referring to the proposed NRI university project, he said it would be finalised within six months but refused to give details about its location and the courses it would offer.

He said stringent measures, such as mandatory attestation by Indian missions while hiring domestic workers and special monitoring at airports, are in place to protect the interests of maids going abroad.
