Reservation for SC/ST under periodic review

Ranchi, Apr 18 (UNI) Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh today said reservation for SC/ST was under periodic review and subsequent governments were taking it forward depending on the situation.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Singh said the government had already approached the Supreme Court and hoped to get a verdict soon regarding reservation of seats in higher education for backward communities.

Asked on the Sachar Committee report, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently said the government would initiate steps towards its implementation.

However, to another query on formation of Central Madrasa Board, Mr Singh said he himself had not taken any direct step towards it but if unanimity prevailed among the Madrasas, the matter could be considered.
