Nitish launches development scheme in West Champaran

Bettiah, Apr 18 (UNI) In his ongoing effort for development of the state, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today launched several schemes of about Rs 1041 crore for overall development of West Champaran district.

Laying the foundation of the schemes, Mr Kumar said he had taken over the reign to serve the people of the state and not to rule over them. He said fund would never come in the way of development and added that the Opposition was stunned with the flow of money, which actually belonged to the peple.

Mr Kumar expressed concern over the power scenario in the state and assured of improving the situation once the Barauni and Kanti Thermal power stations started generating electricity after completion of maintenance work.

He said the average per capita electricity consumption in Bihar was deplorable compared to national average of 800 MW.

He admitted inadequate electricity supply in summer as several power units of Farakka over the Ganges remained closed following distribution of water to Bangladesh.

He said the government had concentrated on development of roads and started construction work at several places all over the state.

Education, health, industry were also on the priority list of the government and several steps had been initiated to improve the condition of these sectors.
