MP: Narmada origin site to be developed

Bhopal, Apr 18: Conservation and development of the Narmada origin site at Amarkantak in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh will be taken up to attract tourists.

Assistance of the Archaeological Survey of India will also be enlisted in the conservation and beautification work after acquiring the private land near the origin of the west-flowing Narmada river.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Narmada Valley Development Authority here yesterday. The NVDA will bear the expense of about Rs 20.58 lakh for acquiring the private land, official sources said.

Meanwhile, the NVDA decided to provide water to the project affected people for construction of houses at the rehabilitation sites.

It also approved construction of a huge canal tunnel to carry water from the Narmada river to the Sone river basin, creating irrigation potential of 1,59,655 hectare in Satna district and 3552 hectare in Rewa district.
