Colombo, Apr 18 (UNI) The Sri Lankan military claimed that its troops manning a Forward Defence Lines (FDL) in the Northern Jaffna peninsula have shot dead a Tamil Tiger rebel early this morning.

A military official said the LTTE cadre was attempting to infiltrate into the Nagarkovil FDL when the troops spotted him and shot him dead.

In a separate incident last evening, a military foot patrol recovered a powerful claymore mine weighing eight kg along with detonator cord wires at Madduvil in Thenmaradchchi in the northern Jaffna peninsula.

Last evening Sri Lanka's Defence Ministry claimed that the supersonic fighter jets of the Air Force have bombed and destroyed 'an identified LTTE training facility' at Wattappalai, south of Puthukkudiyiruppu in the Mullaitivu district.

The Defence Ministry in a statement said that the aerial sorties were taken on a 'pre-identified LTTE target', adding that the rebel 'training facilities were destroyed into rubbles'.

There was no immediate reaction from the rebels in this regard.
