Help poor with compassion: TNHRC Chairman

Chennai, Apr 18: Students should build character and help the poor and needy people with compassion and dedication to take the nation on the path of development, Tamil Nadu Human Rights Commission Chairman A S Venkatachalamoorthy said.

Speaking at the College Day function of the Easwari Engineering College, a part of the SRM Group of Institutions here last evening, he exhorted the students to pursue higher education, while at the same time emphasised the point of taking knowledge to the lower and underprivileged sections of the society.

He advised the students to be humble, compassionate and have self-confidence to attain success.

Quoting extensively from the words of Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Buddha, he said that serving the society would not end unless the poor and the needy were benefitted.

College Principal R Armugam said 226 students were placed during the last year and 296 students got their offer letters this year.

He said the college has proposed to introduce one undergraduate programme in civil engineering and two postgraduate programmes in software engineering and communication systems.

He also said there would be an increase in the intake of students from 60 to 120 in mechanical engineering, EEE and management studies this year.

Chancellor of SRM University T R Pachamuthu and Pro Vice-Chancellor R Shiva Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
