Haji buland khan meets PM, demands package for Gujjars Bakerwals

Jammu, Apr 18 (UNI) Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir State Advisory Board for Development of Gujjar and Bakerwal, Haji Buland Khan, today called upon Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at New Delhi and demanded a special developmental package for this nomadic population.

An official statement issued here said Mr Khan drew Mr Singh's attention towards socio-economical, educational and political backwardness of Gujjar and Bakarwal, seeking his intervention in mitigating sufferings of this nomadic community.

Mr Khan also stressed on the need to provide political reservation to Gujjar and Bakerwal in the legislative Assembly and Parliament as per constitutional benefits for the tribes, so as to accord voice to the voiceless, the statement said.

The Prime Minister assured Mr Khan of all possible help to the tribal community during the meeting which lasted over 20 minutes.
