Goa assembly elections on June 2

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) Elections to the 40-member Goa Assembly will be held on June 2, the Election Commission announced today.

Announcing this at a press conference here, Deputy Election Commissioner R Bhattacharya said counting of votes will take place on June 5 and the whole election process will conclude on June 8.

With the announcement of the elections the model code of conduct came into effect immediately, he added.

He said the notfication for the elections will be issued on May 8 and the last date of filing nominations is May 15. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 16 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is May 18.

The DEC said the present term of the Goa Assembly expires on June 8.
