Girl dies as water pump burst into flames

Barrackpore, Apr 18 (UNI) An eighteen-year-old girl was killed when a running water pump burst into flames while she was pouring water at Kharubala under Haroa police station in North 24 Parganas today, police said.

The father of the girl was also received burn and admitted to a local hospital.

The accident occurred when Soleman Dafadar, a farmer, was trying to keep the swallow water pump running with the help of his 11th standard daughter Sofia Khatun. As the girl was pouring water into the machine it suddenly burst into flames killing her on the spot.

In another incident police recovered a male body of about 45 years old from the canal near airport in the district.

Police suspected the body, yet to be idenfied, was thrown into the canal after after being strangulated to death.
