'Farmers turned paupers under Mulayam regime'

Pratapgarh, Apr 18: Former prime minister and Jan Morcha leader V P Singh today alleged that farmers under the present Mulayam Singh Yadav regime in Uttar Pradesh have turned paupers. ''Their lands are being been sold in the hands of capitalists and the farmers have been ruined,'' Mr Singh said addressing an election meeting here.

He said the time had come to uproot such a government, which gave little importance even to grave crimes such as Nithari.

Targetting guns on BSP chief Mayawati, the former PM claimed she would join hands with BJP after the ongoing UP poll is over for the sake of power.

On the foreign origin issue of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Mr Singh said it has to be decided by the court.

''There is imminent danger to the country from criminalisation of politics,'' he noted.

Slamming the centre, Mr Singh said the country was importing wheat following the wrong policies of the UPA regime.
