Eight killed, 5 injured in lightning in TN

Cuddalore, Apr 18 (UNI) Eight people were killed and five injured when they were struck by lightning at Vazhudavoor Kootturoad, near Mundiyambakkam in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu late last night.

According to police, as there was heavy rain, people took shelter under a thatched roof to watch the 'Karagattam' programme in connection with the 'Amaavasai Pooja'' of the Angalamman temple, when lightning struck, killing eight people. Five others suffered burns.

The injured were admitted to the Villupuram government hospital.

The deceased were identified as Sudhakar, Veeravel, Paramasivam, Ranganathan, Mohan, Rajendran, Kaasi and Surendran, police added.
