Cisco puts 'NOW' to tap SMB segment in Guj

Ahmedabad, Apr 18 (UNI) Cisco Systems, the global leader in networking for the internet today annoucned aggressive plans to address the needs of the burgeoning small and medium business (SMB) segment in Gujarat.

The Company unveiled 'Network On Wheels' (NOW), a mobile showcase of customised Cisco Networking Solutions, including advanced technologies such as security, wireless and unified IP communications aimed to tap into fast growning sectros like IT services, manufacturing textiles, gems&jewellery and pharma in and around Ahmedabad city.

Talking to mediapersons here, Jagdish Mahapatra, Regional Manager, Commercial (Cisco India Limited) said ''As per an Access Markets International (AMI) Partners study there are an estimated 7.6 million SMBs in India. These SMBs are set to spend a whopping USD 500 million to beef up their servers and networking technology.

Further, networking technology forms the backbone of all IT and Telecom investments and is a key component of the overall expenditure for SMBs.

Mr Mahapatra said ''Ahmedabad's business landscape is undergoing tremendous change in sectors like IT services, manufacturing, auto and textile among others. Traditional industries are finding an incerased need to adopt advanced telecommunication technologies to stay globally competitive.'' While, technology is viewed as the driver for increasing operating efficiencies, SMBs are yet to realise the implication of technology as a strategic business tool. The Cisco NOW program aims to address this awareness gap by showcasing a complete range of customised Cisco networking solutions for SMBs across technologies such as routing, switching, security, wireless, voice and video. It is amongst the largest marketing initiatives in India by Cisco and is a key pillar of its SMB strategy, he said.
