Cigarette salesmen appeal government to withdraw VAT

Kottayam, Apr 18 (UNI) Cigarette salesmen in Kerala today lamented that they were in a crisis following the introduction of VAT on Cigarette.

At a news conference here today, the salesmen appealed to the state government not to enforce the act as it would be detrimental to those who were depending on Cigarette sales for their livelihood, including roadside vendors and salesmen.

They said it would result in large scale smuggling from the neighbouring states since there was no VAT on Cigarette in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
