Army, police chargesheeted in custodial killing in Kashmir

Baramulla, Apr 18 (UNI) A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Jammu and Kashmir police today filed a chargesheet against six Army personnel, including a colonel and a major, and three policemen in a local court at Sopore in a custodial killing case of a civilian.

The chargesheet was filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Sopore Abdul Rashid Malik.

It said a colonel, a major and four other soldiers besides suspended Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hansraj Parihar, DSP Ram Bahadur and policemen were involved in the killing of Ghulam Nabi Wani after his arrest.

The SIT said Wani was arrested in Srinagar and later killed in Ganderbal area in a fake encounter, dubbing him as a foreign militant.

The team also informed the court that the Army has not cooperated during the investigations.
