Arjun defends Rahul's statement on Bangladesh

Ranchi, Apr 18: Human Resources Development minister Arjun Singh today defended Mr Rahul Gandhi's recent controversial statement on Bangladesh terming it as 'naujawan ka vichar' (opinion of youth).

Mr Singh said Mr Gandhi's remarks did not smack of any anti-social overtones.

Addressing a press conference here at the Raj Bhavan, Mr Singh said he had witnessed the creation of Bangladesh and was well aware of what had happened then.

Regarding the young Gandhi's another statement during campaigning in Uttar Pradesh that the demolition of Babri Masjid would not have occurred if his family members were at the helm of affairs, Mr Singh toed the general Congress line saying he too had made such comments on various occasions.

He claimed that the Congress would gain maximum in Uttar Pradesh election but declined to offer any figure on seats expected to be bagged.
