AIDWA: Sangh Parivar, BJP communalising inter-religious marriages
New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) today came down heavily on the BJP and the Sangh Parivar over communalising the recent inter-religious marriages in Gujarat and MP, saying they are violating the fundamental rights of the couples.
''We condemn the attempts being made in the recent past by the Sangh Parivar to communlise the issue and the harassment of couples who have chosen to marry across religions by their respective BJP governments,'' AIDWA President Subhashini Ali said.
''These forces are hell-bent on destroying the social fabric and demeaning the status of women...,'' she added.
AIDWA called upon women to uphold their right to self-choice marriages and also to condemn all efforts being made to infringe upon their basic rights.
Expressing shock over the demand of raising the minimum age for girls marrying out of their religion in MP, AIDWA said the Parivar or the state government had never paid attention to the ''very large incidence of marriages of minor girls in the state''.
