10 Akola villages to get 'Nirmal Gram' award

Akola, Apr 18 (UNI) As many as 10 villages in Akola district have been selected for 'Nirmal Gram Award', under the 'Total Cleanliness Drive'.

The awards will be distributed by President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, at New Delhi on May 4. The Sarpanches of these 10 villages will receive the award and will be felicitated by the President, official sources said.

The central team had inspected in all 19 villages and selected 10 villages in this district for the award. The villages selected include Navthal (Akola taluka), Mohala (Akot taluka), Godura and Thar (Telhara taluka), Bagora (Murtizapur taluka), Sawarkhed and Wahala BK (Patur taluka), Sarav and Kherda BK (Barshi Takli taluka) and Uri Arab village of Murtizapur taluka.

The award has been instituted in 2003 for villages, which are free from 'open pit toilet system' under the 'cleanliness drive', according to Mr M G Malakolikar, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parshad, Akola.
