Wockhardt to launch gel to treat scars

Mumbai, Apr 17 (UNI) Pharmaceutical and biotechnology major Wockhardt will launch a silicone gel for treatment of scars and keloids arising from accidents, burns, surgery and acne in the Indian market this year.

Keloids are fibrous growths formed over healed wounds.

To be available in an easy-to-apply gel form with self-drying action, Kelocote can also treat skin disorders such as dermatitis and varicella, a company statement said here today.

Wockhardt Chairman Habil Khorakiwala said they have signed an in-licensing agreement with Advanced Biotechnologies of United States to market Kelocote, a patent-protected product to treat scars, in the third quarter of 2007.

While clinical trials on Indian patients are in progress, clinical data from various countries has already proven its efficacy and cost-effectiveness, Wochardt said in a statement. Kelocote is currently marketed in North America, Europe, Australia and South-East Asia.
