Wheat procurement at farmers' doorsteps

Lucknow, Apr 17 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has made a provision for the procurement of wheat at the doorsteps of farmers in the current Rabi marketing season.

The scheme would be facilitiated by mobile centres, while the farmers would be paid on-the-spot by way of bearers cheques subject to the limit of Rs 20,000.

The personnel manning the centres would first weight the produce in the presence of farmers.

State food commissioner Anup Pandey said here today concerned officials have been directed to identify villages falling under their jurisdiction to procure wheat at their doorsteps.

Farmers would be paid at the rate of Rs 850 per quintal, he informed.
