TRS rules out ties with Cong, to hold stir in Delhi

Hyderabad, Apr 17 (UNI) Ruling out joining hands with the Congress till it concedes statehood for Telangana, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) today announced it would fight against the ''illegal construction of Babli project'' by Maharashtra and printing of warning signs on beedi packets.

''The TRS parted ways with the Congress as the latter has been dilly-dallying in taking a decision on formation of Telangana state. There is no question of any truck with the Congress till the AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi takes a decision on the issue,'' Senior TRS leader and former Union Minister A Narendra told reporters here.

Lashing out at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), he said the TRS will boycott the all-party meet called by it, as it had voted for the Bill making mandatory the printing of skull and bones logo during the previous NDA regime and now ''enacting a political drama over the plight of lakhs of beedi workers''.

The TRS would take thousands of beedi workers to New Delhi to hold a stir at Jantar Mantar to protest the Centre's recommendation.

The TRS would also approach the Supreme Court against Maharastra for stopping Babli and ten other ''illegal'' projects across the river Godavari.

The party would pressurise the Congress, which was in power at the Centre, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, to provide justice to Telangana farmers, Mr Narendra said.

He welcomed the support for Telangana state announced by Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal Supremo Lalu Prasad.

The party was gearing up for the massive ''Viswarupa Pradarshana'' at Warangal on April 27, he added.
