New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul today said shortage of staff in making the force 'world class' would be supplemented through induction of advanced technology and increasing efficiency through state-of-the art equipment.

''We'll be using modern and advanced technology, and on a large scale, to come up to the world class standards and become a fully equipped and capable force that matches the best,'' said Mr Paul while talking to the media after the Delhi Traffic Police ISO Certification function this evening.

Shortage of manpower would not be a hindrance in attaining the objective of becoming the leading police force in the country, despite increasing population and road traffic in Delhi. ''From time to time additional supplements are made as per requirements,'' said the Commissioner in response to a query.

''By 2010 when the Commonwealth Games would be held we would be using more and more technology so that the international standards are achieved and the ISO Certification, testifying our commitment to quality, was a step in that direction.'' Chief Guest Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta said traffic enforcement was a sensitive issue in making the police a 'people-friendly force' and with rising standards the level of efficiency and reliability in functioning increases automatically.

''People want the Delhi Police to be the benchmark for the rest of the police forces in the country and today's certification was a matter of pride and an apt inspiration and motivation in that direction.'' Using modern technology besides bringing quality and safety in our lives, helps us achieve goals faster, he added.

ISO 9001:2000 was today formally awarded to the Notice Branch of the Delhi Traffic Police for providing transparent services in processing, issue of traffic violation notices and collection of composition amount.

The 'new system' wipes off the need to stop the vehicle on road, with the traffic policeman deployed at intersections recording the violations indicating registration number, colour and make of vehicle, date, time and violition committed through the hi-tech gadget.
