Pondy: Action against organisers of road blockades
Puducherry, Apr 17: The Puducherry administration will hereafter not take road roko agitation without permission lightly and stringent action would be initiated against those organising such stirs, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the legislative assembly today.
Replying to a question, he said hitherto police personnel were only removing the protestors from the spot, but hereafter they would be arrested and punished.
AIADMK member A Anbazhagan, who raised the question pointed out the hardships faced by the public, particularly students and patients due to flash road blockades.
DMK member S P Sivakumar sought action against those organising road blockades and other agitations causing hardships to the students.
The House witnessed noisy scenes when DMK member R Siva levelled charges against the AIADMK.
Posing a supplimentary question, Mr Siva referred to the agitation of the AIADMK against Union Minister of State for Textiles E V K S Elangovan and pelting of stones here recently. This drew sharp protest from AIADMK members, who levelled counter charges against DMK resulting in ruckus in the House.
Amid uprorious scenes, Speaker R Radhakrishnan announced that the remark made by the members would not enter into the assembly records.
He later restored order in the House and passed on to other business.
