Port Blair: SBI-IWC in aid of tsunami hit people

Port Blair, Apr 17: State Bank of India(SBI) and The Inner Wheel Club(IWC) of Port Blair have joined hands to help the tsunami-affected people, who were provided interest free loans for restoration of their economic activities.

The restoration of livelihood for the tsunami hit affected people of the area was a joint effort of the SBI and IWC by providing interest free loans to them, SBI (Port Blair) Assistant General Manager D K Podder told reporters today.

Interacting with tsunami-hit people in South Andaman region, Mr Podder expressed his satisfaction over the successful running of their units and advised them to repay the loans regularly to avoid inconvenience at the later state.

State Bank of India has been offering interest free loans to thousands of tsunami-hit people in Andaman and Nicobar Region.

Ms Raj Mahajan, the Chartered President of Inner Wheel Club, urged them to pay back the loan amount so that other needy persons can be provided similar assistance for setting up their income generating assets.

''Any borrower, who is in need of financial assistance for improvement of his unit, will be assisted provided he or she is regularly repaying the loan amount,'' she said.
