Power sub stations to be set up in every blocks: Nitish

Katihar, Apr 17 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced that the state government would set up power sub stations in every blocks to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in rural areas.

Addressing a function here, Mr Kumar said that the state government had initiated several steps to augment power generation in Bihar. He said that total power generation in Bihar would go up to 400 Mega Watt once Kanti and Barauni thermal power stations were made operational.

He said that thermal power stations would be set up at Nabinagar in Aurangabad, Katihar and Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur districts.Survey for the thermal projects had been initiated in the areas, he added.

''Per capita power consumption in Bihar is only 74 units against the national average of 600 units'' he said adding the Centre had permitted to install single phase line in rural areas under Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme(RGREP).

''Bihar government has urged the Centre to make provision for three phase line under RGREP'' Mr Kumar said adding no agricultural machineries could function with single phase line.He said that he would personally raise the matter with the Union Power Minister to impress him on these requirements in rural areas.
