Petitioner suggests ways for cleaning Yamuna
New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) Sureshwar D Sinha, petitioner in a PIL seeking directions to Haryana to release adequate water for Delhi, particularly in lean season, has suggested to the Supreme Court that release of fresh water in the river Yamuna coupled with sewage treatment to the tertiary stage can be the most effective way of cleaning the river.
The petitioner, a retired Air Force officer, in his additional affidavit has also demanded that Delhi was legally entitled to 2711 cusecs of water from Tajewala, which includes Delhi's swapped allocation of 372 cusecs from Bhakhra.
The petitioner told a Bench, comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justices R V Raveendran and D K Jain, that at present only 650 cusecs were being supplied through upstream canals for Delhi, inclusive of its share of 372 cusesc from Bhakhra.
According to the petitioner, if Delhi gets its share of 2711 cusecs, there shall be no shortage of water in the national capital.
