'Indian origin people should hold top positions'

Allahabad, Apr 17: Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu today said if his party came to power, it would launch a country-wide discussion to ensure that only people of Indian origin would hold the posts of Prime Minister and President. ''President, Prime Minister, Vice President and Army Chief ought to be of Indian origin only. We will bring an amendment in constitution, if necessary, after coming to power,'' said former BJP chief Venkaiah Naidu.

Talking to newpersons here, Mr Naidu appreciated the Supreme Court for issuing a notice to the Centre and the Election Commission (EC) on the foreign origin issue.

The BJP will come to power with full majority, he claimed.

Reacting to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's recent statement taking credit for Nehru-Gandhi family in India's Independence and division of Pakistan, Mr Naidu said ''the time has come when Mr Gandhi also takes credit on behalf of his forefathers for the partition of India and the Emergency imposed by his grandmother late PM Indira Gandhi.'' Since the Congress has no stand in UP, Rahul is drawing the attention of public by passing controversial comments, he added.

Blaming the Mulayam Singh Yadav regime for the increasing corruption and crime, Mr Naidu alleged ''history-sheeters are managing Mulayam's campaign directly from jail and people know it well.''
