JK: PDP, Tarigami seek probe into civilian killings

In a statement here, a PDP spokesman condemned the incident and demanded a thorough probe into the circumstances that led to the loss of the precious lives.
''At a time when the security situation is fast improving, such tragic incidents of highhandedness fuel the public outrage and rightly so,'' he added.
The spokesman said the police personnel involved in the killings must be immediately brought to justice to restore public faith.
He also condemned the attack on IRCON engineers near Sangam yesterday in which one policeman was killed.
''Such incidents are the most unfortunate acts of violence as the engineers were performing their duties and had nothing to do with any politics,'' the spokesman added.
CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami also condemned the killing of two civilians, Farooq Ahmad Wani and Shakoor Ahmad Dar, during a firing incident at Kakapora in Pulwama on April 15.
He demanded a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Describing it as a barbaric act, Mr Tarigami said such killings would only increase the miseries of the people and add to the number of widows in the society.
''Whosoever is involved in these innocent killings should be punished severely as per the law,'' he added.
The CPI(M) leader expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls.
He also condemned the killing of a personal security officer of IRCON engineers and described the attack as a heinous act.
These killings would hamper the development activities in the state, Mr tarigami said, adding these acts were aimed at sabotaging the dream envisioned by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for making Jammu and Kashmir a prosperous state.
