No 'direct' purchase of wheat by private cos in Punjab
Moga, Apr 17 (UNI) Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal today categorically stated that private companies would not be allowed to purchase agriculture produce including wheat directly from the farm houses.
These companies could however purchase wheat directly from the farmers from the 'mandis' (grain markets), he said while talking to mediapersons here.
The companies would be allowed direct purchase of agriculture produce from these 'mandis' on the basis of their existing licences, he said adding that all private buyers would have to pay the market fee as well as development fund at the time of wheat purchase in the 'mandis'.
Replying to a question, Mr Lakhowal admitted that certain companies in the agri food retail business had approached the Board with the request to allow the to purchase of wheat directly from the farm houses. However no decision had been taken on their request, he assured.
