Modernisation of Krishna delta to start in six months

Machilipatnam, Apr 17 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy today said the 150 year-old Krishna delta would be modernised by improving the irrigation canals and the drainage system and the developmental works would be started after six months. Addressing a 'Prajapadham programme' at Nadivada near here, he said the programme was severely obsructed by agitations and legal actions by the opposition TDP, although the government overcame all the hurdles.

The modernisation would completed within a year, he said.

The Chief Minister said the Kharif crop farmers in the Krishna delta area would get the irrigation water from first June.

He said his government incresed the pension to widows and handicapped to Rs 200 from Rs 75, which was fixed by the previous Telugu Desam government.

He said the opposition parties were obstructing the 'Polavaram project'.

He announced Rs 20 lakhs and Rs 1.5 crore for construction of roads in Nandivada mandal and the one between Kudaravalli and Ventrapagada, respectively.
