Milk at Rs 18 per litre

Jabalpur, Apr 17 (UNI) On the Madhya Pradesh High Court directive, the state government has fixed the milk price at Rs 18 per litre in Jabalpur district to provide relief to the consumers affected by unilateral hike effected by milk sellers at least twice a year.

The High Court issued the directive on a public interest litigation filed by the Nagrik Upbhokta Margdarshak Manch.

District Collector Sanjay Dubey, who held a meeting with the dairy owners, today said the Food and Civil Supplies department order, fixing the milk price and banning milk export outside the district, will be effective from April 27.

The price was fixed after a survey and the effective date was fixed to give sufficient time to the dairy owners and other affected people to approach the court, Mr Dubey said.

From April 27, all vehicles would be strictly checked and stern action taken against those violating the order banning milk export.

Normally, milk sellers unilaterally hiked milk rates twice a year and the current retail price is Rs 20 per litre, the highest in the state.
